Copywriters that are adept in the various types of disciplines of SEO can creatively position keywords in the site copy that will boost visibility and enhance the quality of the leads. Once people can locate the site via search engines, the site will keep them there if the copywriters have fulfilled their task of making the site an interesting destination on the internet.

Check out these four sites for insights on how websites and other businesses online get better views and traffic through the use of good copywriting techniques.

How Copywriting Projects Are Initiated

Whether you're a copywriter at an ad agency or a staff writer at a company, the amount of information you receive to begin the project varies widely. You might get a detailed creative brief (explained later in this chapter) describing everything you need to know to write the copy. Welcome to Nirvana! More likely, however, the information you receive will be incomplete and you'll have to fill in the gaps somehow. That's why dogged research is such an important part of the copywriting planning process.

Five Materials Every Copywriter Should Know How to Write

Writing direct mail expands upon your new knowledge of writing brochures. Direct mail is not one specific package of materials. In other words, not every direct mail package is the same. Some may include a sales letter and response card. Others may include a sales letter and brochure. Getting familiar with direct mail helps expose you to a side of advertising that some agencies specialize in exclusively. This can be invaluable knowledge to have if you discover you enjoy writing direct mail.

What Is Copywriting by Steve Slaunwhite

Technically, copywriting is writing the words that are printed, spoken, or displayed in any type of advertising, marketing, sales, and publicity piece. It encompasses all communications media — print, broadcast, Internet. And it includes all the written elements of a promotion, including the headline, the body of the text, slogans, photo captions, spoken dialogue, and even stage directions (in the case of scripts for video and television).

The longer your copywriting keep visitors engaged, the higher your chances of clinching a sale

The use of web copywriting services has grown exponentially in recent years as the internet has grown into a key marketing platform. Web copywriting is needed to provide text for websites, which can range anywhere from an ordinary product specifications to an in-depth analysis of technical topics. Any website that can drive a good amount of traffic can be potentially profitable. The secret is having convincing copy that will result in the target audience spending as much time as possible on the site.

As part of our ongoing series on “salesmanship in print”, I would like to share with you some great tips and links plus a video on effective online copywriting:

The Freelance Copywriter Guide

All good writers are not copywriters, but all good copywriters are writers. A copywriter is a person who can effectively craft words that will provide consumers with clear, concise, and interesting information. Copywriting is both the technique and the art of writing about a product or idea—or perhaps a person—in such a way as to convince the reader to take action. What is freelancing? A freelancer is a person who is self-employed and offers his or her services on a short-term, contract basis to a number of different companies. Generally, the term freelance is used in reference to artistic and writing pursuits, but many different types of work now have a freelance component in the work force.

Copywriters help your business reach your ideal customers

Sometimes you’re not sure who you want to attract to your business. But too many SMEs waste advertising money by assuming their product is used by everyone. Convincing your ideal customers that your product is the right purchase takes planning. Like most things in life, I find having the external perspective of another person an essential stage of this planning process. It’s only worth spending money on advertising if you have a copywriter, and if you know your target audience. That’s just one thing you should know about your business before you delegate work to a copywriter. Copywriters will use a targeted writing style to reach your audience.

Engage Your Customer – Write About Benefits

Think quick. In 10 seconds, can you list the 5 key benefits you offer your customers?

I bet you said “Yes”. But are you sure you listed benefits? If you’ll bear with me for another 10 seconds, I’d like to test out a theory on you. Recap your answers – maybe even write them down. Now list the 5 main things your business does. In other words, what are your 5 core services? What are the 5 core features of your product? If your first list looks anything like your second, chances are you’re mistaking features for benefits. As a result, it’s likely that your marketing materials aren’t engaging your customer. Customers don’t want to know what you can do. They want to know what you can do FOR THEM.

SEO Copywriting

Inexperienced SEO copywriters may make the mistake of ‘keyword stuffing’. This is when a keyword is repeated so many times in a piece of copy that it is incredibly obvious to the reader as the content sounds disjointed. It also looks very unprofessional. The experienced SEO copywriter will understand how website content should be structured and the maximum amount of time a keyword can be used before they cross the line into keywords stuffing. SEO copywriting is still very much an art as it is tricky to establish a balance between what the natural reader would like to see and what search engines like Google would like to see.

Online copywriting or offline. What's the difference?

Wikipedia defines online copywriting as the act of writing copy for the purpose of marketing or advertising a concept, opinion, person (or people), or business. The reader or listener of the copy is meant to be persuaded to buy the service or product being promoted for, or subscribe to the viewpoint that the copy shares. As such, online copywriters are people businesses turn to for web page content, taglines, banner ads and other online content like PRs, billboards, catalogs, sales letters etc.

In this roundup, I’d like to share to four posts on the difference between online and offline coywriting and what web copywriters do.

WHAT DOES A WEB COPYWRITER DO?

A web copywriter is a person who writes sales copy for the Internet. This can include direct pitch sales, content writing, and other things. In a more extensive definition these copywriters are basically responsible for not only creating sales through their words but also using words to increase traffic to websites. The qualifications it takes to become a web copywriter may vary. Some people have experience writing offline ad copy. Others are just strong writers with a gift of gab that can translate into generating traffic and increasing customer interest.

WHAT DOES A COPYWRITER DO?

It's hard to come up with an accurate description of a copywriter. The best way to describe a copywriter is to just show what a copywriter does. A copywriter will ... write advertising and marketing copy.

Every business needs to bring in customers and clients. So they need a variety of printed materials, including ads, brochures, business plans, catalogs, circulars, direct mail, fliers, invoice stuffers, labels, packaging, post cards, product literature, sales letters, self-mailers, and trade show displays.

SEO COPYWRITER

A copywriter is a kind of matchmaker for businesses and customers. Using words they bring together your business message with your customers’ desires. Through this happy union, your customers find solutions to their dilemmas and you can get more sales leads, enquiries or donations.

Among the millions of words that people read every day, a copywriter can make yours STAND OUT.

Words are powerful selling tools if you know how to use them. As with anything though, copy without soul is just hype. Which brings me neatly onto search engine optimized or SEO copywriting. This is all about the canny and relevant use of key phrases in the text on your website, in your blog articles and even in your tweets and Facebook status updates.

WHAT DOES A FREELANCE COPYWRITER DO?

A freelance copywriter is anyone who produces content or text on demand. The ‘freelance’ indicates that they operate as a free agent, usually carrying out clearly bounded copywritingprojects or commissions on an ad hoc basis and for a range of clients. ‘Copywriter’ is a loosely defined term, since copywriting often includes a range of tasks that may be much more precisely defined in other industries (such as publishing): writing, rewriting, structuring, planning, editing, copy-editing, proofreading and liaison with a range of other professionalssuch as graphic designers and web developers.

WHAT DOES AN SEO COPYWRITER DO, ANYWAY?

What does a copywriter do?

ACCORDING to Wikipedia, copywriting is the process of writing words that promote a business, person, idea, or opinion. Its definition also underscores the main purpose of writing to persuade readers to take action, which is ideally to buy a product. So copywriting is about writing promotional and persuasive text that convinces people that what you are selling can satisfy a need, or solve a problem they have.

Very good copywriting can convince people that they need to buy a product, or avail of service or even make them realize that they have a problem without having previously being aware of it.

Check out these posts which define the copywriter's role and how they can increase profits for businesses:

WHAT IS COPYWRITING

Copywriting is the process of writing advertising promotional materials. Copywriters are responsible for the text on brochures, billboards, websites, emails, advertisements, catalogs, and more.

This text is known as “copy.” Copy is everywhere — it’s part of a $2.3 trillion industry worldwide.

Unlike news or editorial writing, copywriting is all about getting the reader to take action. That action might be to purchase, opt-in, or engage with a product, service, or company.

That’s why a copywriter is often referred to as “a salesman in print.”

Copywriting should not be confused with “copyright.” Copyright means an individual or company has the exclusive legal right to reproduce, publish, sell, or distribute someone’s work (such as books, music, artistic items).

COPYWRITERS

Professional copywriters are often asked this question:

What is copywriting, and what do copywriters do for a living?

The act of copywriting should not be confused with copyright registration. Copyright refers to the official registration of patents, intellectual property and brand logo usage rights.

Having determined what copywriting is not, how would one go about explaining the functioning and purpose of this creative role?

Copywriting defined

Copywriting is in the first instance the creative process of conceptualising advertisements and marketing devices such as events and other platforms promoting brands or services.

Giving birth to the Big Idea

Copywriters are tasked with conceptualizing or "hatching" the Big Idea. Coming up with a creative concept that sells is a very involved and energy consuming process. It's more than just writing a few words; it is a lot more complicated than churning out a quick headline and a few paragraphs of body copy.

ABC COPYWRITING

There are probably as many definitions of copywriting as there are copywriters. My own definition of copywriting is as follows:

Copywriting is the optimum use of language to promote or persuade.

Now, let me unpack the elements of this definition.

First, copywriting is all about finding the optimum way to communicate. The professional copywriter is always looking for the right answer: the right length of copy, the right structure, the right tone, the right choice of words. Diligent copywriters are convinced that there is a single best solution, and they’re driven to find it. Like Coleridge, they want to achieve ‘the best words in the best order’.

COPYWRITING: WHAT IS IT, WHY DO YOU NEED IT FOR YOUR BUSINESS?

Copywriting is the advertising industry's official term for writing whose sole purpose is to market products, services and ideas. This type of writing is different from news writing or book writing because it is subjective and persuasive in nature. When you write advertising copy, you do it with the intention of capturing interest, appealing to human emotion, and evoking a specific and intended action or reaction.

Nearly every advertising agency or in-house marketing department has a full-time copywriter or entire department of copywriters on staff. Copywriters work together with graphic artists and marketing strategists to develop what's known as the creative (also known as the creative platform). This refers to the combination of images and words that work to build brand recognition, establish trust and credibility with consumers, and sell products and services.

Brochure Copywriting Tips Roundup

A brochure is an important and tangible marketing and sales tool. They can be a company’s closest ally. Your client can touch it and absorb the advantages of your service or product. It represents the name of your business. It has the credibility of the printed word. Despite the rapid growth of the internet, print still plays a very crucial role in terms of influencing the way people think, making brochures a valuable element of your business’ communications strategy.

Here are some links about effective brochure copywriting that I’d like to share with you today:

BROCHURE MARKETING: 12 TIPS ON HOW TO DO IT EFFECTIVELY

You must write your brochure or leaflet from the reader's point of view. That means the information must unfold in the right order. Begin by analyzing what your reader wants to know. An easy way to do this is by assessing the order in which your reader's questions will flow. For example, imagine you own a medical spa facility offering Botox and other anti-aging treatments. You are interested in encouraging your readers to make an appointment for a consultation and/or schedule a treatment. Now, given the nature of your business, your reader will have a lot of questions they'll want answered before they'll consider making an appointment. Your brochure should answer their questions in a logical sequence following the reader’s train of thought.

HOW TO WRITE MORE EFFECTIVE BROCHURES

Brochure projects are the vampires of marketing. All too often, they drain the blood out of our budgets without adding life to our sales. Why? They're expensive. They're misused. And for people too lazy to think, they're the standard default when it's time to "do something" to help market a product or service.

Brochures are poor sales devices. (For that, look toward letters and other offer-centric vehicles.) But they do one thing really well that can help support the sale: when the product isn't literally in front of the customer, it figuratively puts the product or service in the prospects' hands. The more vivid the illusion, the more effective the brochure.

HOW TO WRITE A BROCHURE: ADVICE FROM AN ADVERTISING COPYWRITER

Whether aimed at a trade or consumer audience, whether intended as a lead-generator or leave-behind, your brochure copy must help sweep your prospect toward a profitable sale. It must present information both clearly and convincingly, following a strategically sound persuasive structure. This persuasive structure often reinforces or connects steps within the sales process itself. So, before starting to write, it’s important to understand how the brochure will be used, including where the brochure fits in your sales process, how it will be distributed, who will read it, and what action you want the reader to take next.

Brochures continue to be the ultimate business card

Times change, people don’t. Irrespective of what happens in the online world, nothing beats the appeal of a beautifully designed and elegantly written brochure. It is the ultimate business card. It demonstrates your business’ expertise, service quality and credibility in a bold, physical manner that simply can’t be done in pixelated form. But to ensure your brochure is read and responded to, rather than left to gather dust in a pile on the corner of desks, it has to be professionally written and designed.

THE BASIC RULES OF MAKING A GOOD BROCHURE

Whether targeted at a particular trade or consumer sector, whether meant as a lead-generator or otherwise, your brochure copy must lay down the information convincingly based on a detailed and effective persuasive format.
